Oh? You’re still here :)

Q&A, with myself, asking questions that I wish someone asked me more often:

Best design trend of 2026?

A: Heisei Retro for everything, from fashion to interior design. Growing up, I was very connected with my Japanese roots-attending Seattle Japanese school, frequently visiting my extended family in Kanagawa prefecture, and studying abroad in elementary school. It brings me so much nostalgia and joy seeing parts of my childhood make a huge resurgence in Japan and abroad!

What is the meaning of life?

A: Balance, community, and realizing that we’re everything and nothing at the same time.

What’s been on your mind lately, outside of work?

A: Feng Shui,

The Most Efficient Way of Doing Something Isn’t Always Better

Depending on

Over-reliance on AI is risks generic solutions that feel less exciting and real

When used ethically with an understanding of its limitations, AI is a powerful tool capable of supporting research, generate ideas, and improving efficiency. However, designing meaningful user experiences requires empathy, critical thinking, and an understanding of human emotions and context—qualities that AI cannot fully replicate.

UX design is fundamentally about understanding people's needs and creating experiences that make users feel seen, heard, and valued. Relying too heavily on AI risks producing generic solutions that overlook the nuances of human behavior and lived experiences. Rather than replacing designers and their decision-making, AI should serve as a collaborative tool that empowers creatives while leaving the final decisions to humans.
